Tata Motors became the first Indian automaker to cross one lakh EV sales in a calendar year, selling 1,02,400 units by October 2025 with two months still remaining. The Nexon EV and Punch EV together accounted for 72% of India total passenger EV sales, cementing Tata dominant position with a 68% market share. The company also unveiled its premium Avinya concept EV at the Tokyo Motor Show previewing the next-generation portfolio.

Tata Motors MD N. Chandrasekaran said the milestone proves India is ready for electric mobility and that affordability, range, and charging infrastructure have all improved significantly. PLI support for advanced battery cells has reduced battery costs by 22% in two years. Analysts forecast the EV segment will contribute 25% of Tata domestic revenues by FY2027 as five new models launch including a mass-market EV below Rs 10 lakh.
