Three new stations on the Mumbai Metro Phase 4 corridor — Ghatkopar East, Vikhroli, and Kanjurmarg — were inaugurated this week, bringing significant relief to the city commuters. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis flagged off the services, stating that the expansion would reduce travel time by up to 40 minutes for approximately 3.5 lakh daily commuters. The new stretch integrates seamlessly with the existing Metro Line 1 and suburban rail network.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) confirmed that the full Phase 4 corridor spanning 35 kilometres will be operational by March 2026. The project, costing Rs 14,500 crore, is being funded jointly by the state government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Officials said automatic fare collection gates and real-time passenger information systems have been installed at all new stations.
