Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a two-day state visit aimed at resetting bilateral relations, his first official trip to India since taking over the interim government in August 2024. Prime Minister Modi received him at Hyderabad House and the two leaders held wide-ranging talks covering water-sharing agreements for the Teesta and Feni rivers, bilateral trade facilitation, and the BBIN connectivity corridor.
The two sides signed five agreements on railway connectivity, energy cooperation, and digital payments integration. Modi said India is committed to being a reliable partner for Bangladesh development, while Yunus said normalising the relationship is essential for both nations. The visit comes amid a period of heightened tensions following political upheaval in Dhaka and a slowdown in bilateral trade that reached $14 billion in FY2024. Analysts said the summit marked a cautious but positive reset.
