Air India confirmed a landmark 250-aircraft order valued at over $30 billion at list prices, comprising 190 Airbus A320neo family jets and 60 Boeing 737 MAX planes — the largest aviation deal in India history. Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced the deal alongside Airbus and Boeing CEOs at a New Delhi ceremony attended by Prime Minister Modi. Deliveries begin in 2026 and continue through 2031.
The order is part of Air India transformation strategy following its Tata Group acquisition in 2022. The airline also has 70 wide-body jets on order including A350s and 787 Dreamliners for international route expansion. Air India plans to grow its fleet from 218 to over 500 aircraft by 2030 to capitalise on India emerging as the world third-largest aviation market by passenger numbers in the coming years.
