Rohit Sharma etched his name in history books on Saturday by becoming India most-capped Test captain, leading the team in his 50th match as skipper at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, surpassing MS Dhoni previous record of 48 Tests as captain. The milestone came during the first Test against South Africa, which India won by 211 runs. Rohit, who has an impressive 34 wins in 49 Tests as captain before this match, was presented with a special commemorative cap by BCCI President Roger Binny in a pre-match ceremony.
Rohit said it is a privilege to captain India and every match as skipper is special to him. Former Test captains Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Kapil Dev sent congratulatory messages. India record under Rohit as Test captain stands at 35 wins, 9 draws, and 5 defeats — a winning percentage of 71.4% that ranks among the best in Indian cricket history. His tenure has seen India qualify for two consecutive ICC World Test Championship finals.
