Yash Raj Films officially announced Pathaan 2, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster that crossed Rs 1,050 crore worldwide, with Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham returning in their original roles. Director Siddharth Anand, who helmed the original, will return to direct the sequel which YRF described as a larger, more ambitious global spy adventure than its predecessor. The film was announced on Shah Rukh Khan birthday with a special video message from the star that broke Instagram engagement records in India.

YRF CEO Akash Chawla said Pathaan 2 will honour and exceed the expectations of the hundreds of millions of fans who made the original a cultural phenomenon. The sequel will release on Republic Day 2027, following the tradition of big-ticket Bollywood releases on the national holiday. Advance production work has already begun with location scouting in seven countries. Trade analysts said Pathaan 2 could become India highest-grossing film of all time given the franchise built by the first film and the explosive global growth of Shah Rukh Khan fan base since his comeback.
