India had its best-ever showing at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in 2025, with three Indian productions winning awards across different sections of the festival. Tamil director Pa. Ranjith competitive entry Perumbadavam won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize, while Konkona Sen Sharma directorial Ek Roz Aisa Bhi received a Special Mention in the Critics Week section. Malayalam cinematographer Rajeev Ravi won the Technical Grand Prize for his extraordinary work on an international co-production with France.
The Indian delegation at Cannes also included a record 25 films from across regional cinema industries in the market and festival sections, reflecting the growing international profile of Indian independent and art house cinema. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, who led the official Indian delegation, called it an extraordinary week for Indian cinema that demonstrates the depth of storytelling talent across India diverse film industries. Film producer Guneet Monga called the triple win a watershed moment and said India independent cinema is finally getting the global recognition it deserves.
