India over-the-top video streaming industry crossed $3 billion in total revenue for the first time in 2025, driven by paid subscription growth across Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and JioCinema, combined with rapidly growing advertising revenue from ad-supported tiers, and premium sports broadcasting rights. The $3 billion milestone is nearly double the $1.6 billion revenue recorded just three years earlier in 2022, reflecting both the explosion of internet connectivity in India and the maturing of the premium content habit among urban and semi-urban consumers.
Media Partners Asia analyst Vivek Couto said India OTT industry is now among the top five globally by revenue and is on course to reach $6 billion by 2028. The industry directly employs over 80,000 creative and technical professionals and has catalysed a massive expansion in Indian language content production with over 600 original series and films produced exclusively for streaming in 2025. The success of Indian OTT has also led to multiple global streaming platforms signing Indian content distribution deals for international audiences in the Indian diaspora markets.
